EcoFlow DELTA 2 vs DELTA 3: What Changed and Which to Buy
Quick verdict
Buying new? Get the DELTA 3. It keeps the DELTA 2's 1,024 Wh and 1,800 W but adds a 3,600 W surge, 56-minute full AC charge, 10 ms UPS, 4,000-cycle rating and expansion to about 5 kWh. Already own a DELTA 2? Keep it: runtime is identical, and an extra battery is the cheaper upgrade.
The EcoFlow DELTA 2 vs DELTA 3 question comes up for two reasons. EcoFlow's US store now sends DELTA 2 shoppers to the DELTA 3, and plenty of people already own a DELTA 2 and want to know whether the new model is worth it. On paper they look almost identical: both are 1,024 Wh LiFePO4 stations rated 1,800 W continuous. The real differences are in surge, charging speed, UPS switchover, rated cycle life and which extra batteries each one accepts.
Everything below uses EcoFlow's US (120 V) specs from its own product pages and user manuals, linked under Sources. That matters because some comparisons quote 230 V figures from EcoFlow's UK and EU sites, which don't apply in North America.
The short answer
- Same runtime. Both store 1,024 Wh, so a given load runs for the same time on either. The DELTA 3 is not a capacity upgrade.
- Same continuous output. Both are rated 1,800 W across six AC outlets.
- The DELTA 3 is better where they differ: 3,600 W surge (vs 2,700 W), 1,500 W AC charging with a 0–100% claim of 56 minutes (vs 1,200 W and 80 minutes), a 10 ms UPS (vs within 30 ms), 4,000 cycles to 80% capacity (vs 3,000) and expansion to about 5 kWh (vs 3,072 Wh).
- Your DELTA 2 extra battery carries over. EcoFlow lists the DELTA 2 and DELTA 2 Max Extra Batteries as compatible with the DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 Plus.

*X-Boost: EcoFlow's US spec tables list a 2,200 W maximum device rating for all three models. The DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 Plus manuals also include a reference table showing 2,600 W "power with X-Boost" at 120 V, and the product pages say X-Boost can run appliances "over 2600W". Because EcoFlow publishes both numbers, we treat X-Boost as roughly a tie and use the 2,200 W spec-table figure. X-Boost lowers the voltage to keep resistive loads running. EcoFlow says it suits heating devices and isn't for appliances with strict voltage requirements.
Prices change often, so we link to the live price instead of quoting one. You can also check the current price on EcoFlow's DELTA 3 page.
What actually changed from DELTA 2 to DELTA 3
1. Surge: 2,700 W to 3,600 W
Continuous output didn't change, but the short burst a motor needs to start did. Compressors and pumps briefly pull several times their running watts. Our refrigerator guide uses Honda's figure of about 1,200 W to start an ENERGY STAR fridge, which both models clear easily on its own. The DELTA 3's extra headroom matters when a motor starts while something else is already running. In that guide's fridge-plus-microwave example, the momentary peak lands right at the DELTA 2's 2,700 W limit. The DELTA 3 has about 900 W to spare.
2. AC charging: 1,200 W to 1,500 W
EcoFlow rates the DELTA 2 at 0–80% in 50 minutes and 0–100% in 80 minutes at up to 1,200 W. It rates the DELTA 3 at 0–100% in 56 minutes at up to 1,500 W. Some reviews compare the DELTA 2's 50-minute figure with the DELTA 3's 56 minutes, but those numbers aren't like for like: one stops at 80% and the other is a full charge. Compared to full, the DELTA 3 is about 24 minutes faster by EcoFlow's numbers. The extra speed helps most when a storm warning gives you an hour or two to top up. Both let you lower the charge rate in the EcoFlow app.
3. Switchover: within 30 ms to under 10 ms
Both can sit between the wall and your devices and take over when the grid drops:
- DELTA 2: the manual calls it EPS that switches within 30 ms. EcoFlow describes it as a basic UPS function without 0 ms switching and says not to use it with devices that need 0 ms, such as data servers and workstations.
- DELTA 3: EcoFlow calls it a standby UPS with a 10 ms transfer time. The manual notes that the grid supply must provide more power than the connected loads draw so the battery stays charged.
- DELTA 3 Plus: the same 10 ms UPS, plus NAS and HID support. Using EcoFlow's PowerManager software over a USB-C data cable, it can tell a PC or NAS to save its work and shut down before the battery runs out.
For a fridge, CPAP or router, either switchover works, but test your own devices. For a desktop PC or NAS, the DELTA 3's 10 ms is a real step up, and the Plus is the model built for it.
4. Rated cycle life: 3,000 to 4,000 cycles
Both use LFP cells, and both ratings use the same 80% end-of-life threshold, so these two numbers can be compared directly, which isn't true of every brand pairing. One full cycle a day works out to about 8 years for 3,000 cycles or 11 years for 4,000. Most home-backup owners cycle far less than that, so for them the rating is more about peace of mind than a practical difference. Daily solar or RV users get more out of it. For background on why LFP holds up, see LiFePO4 vs lithium-ion power stations.
5. Quieter by EcoFlow's numbers
EcoFlow rates the DELTA 3 at under 30 dB up to 600 W and under 40 dB at 1,200 W. It doesn't publish a dB figure for the DELTA 2, so we can't give you an official comparison. We don't run lab tests, so take the DELTA 3 figure as the manufacturer's claim.
6. Expansion: 3 kWh ceiling to about 5 kWh
This is covered in its own section below, because it's what DELTA 2 owners care about most.
What did not change
- Battery capacity and runtime (1,024 Wh).
- Continuous output (1,800 W) and six AC outlets.
- Solar input on the base models. Both take up to 500 W on one 11–60 V, 15 A input. With the same panels, expect similar solar charging. EcoFlow's marketing says "as fast as 3 hours" for the DELTA 2 and "2 hrs" for the DELTA 3, both from its own internal tests. At the full 500 W, 1,024 Wh works out to about 2 hours before losses.
- Fast vehicle charging. Some comparisons list 800 W car charging as a DELTA 3 upgrade, but EcoFlow's DELTA 2 page also advertises its 800 W Alternator Charger (1 kWh in about 1.3 hours). That's a separately sold accessory for both. Through the regular car input, both are limited to roughly 12 V at 8 A.
- Weight and size. The DELTA 3 is about 0.6 lb heavier and marginally narrower.
- Warranty. EcoFlow lists 5 years for both.
The DELTA 2 actually has more outputs (15 vs 13) because it has two extra low-power USB-A ports.
Runtime is the same: CPAP and fridge examples
We use the same method across this site: runtime (hours) ≈ station Wh × 0.85 ÷ load W. The 0.85 allows for inverter and conversion losses on AC (see our sizing guide). At 1,024 Wh, both models deliver about 870 Wh to an AC load.
| Setup | Total Wh | CPAP at 56.1 W (AirSense 11 typical, AC) | Fridge with 465 kWh/year label |
|---|---|---|---|
| DELTA 2 or DELTA 3 alone | 1,024 | ~15.5 h (1.9 nights) | ~16 h |
| DELTA 3 + DELTA 3 Extra Battery, or either + DELTA 2 Extra Battery | 2,048 | ~31 h (3.9 nights) | ~33 h (1.4 days) |
| DELTA 2 or DELTA 3 + DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery | 3,072 | ~46.5 h (5.8 nights) | ~49 h (2.0 days) |
| DELTA 3 + DELTA Pro 3 Extra Battery | 5,120 | ~78 h (9.7 nights) | ~82 h (3.4 days) |
CPAP figure: ResMed's typical consumption figure for the AirSense 11, from our portable power station for CPAP guide. Nights assume 8 hours. Fridge figure: a real Frigidaire 18.4 cu ft EnergyGuide label (465 kWh/year ≈ 53 W average), from our refrigerator runtime guide. Your numbers will differ, so measure your own devices.
Two practical notes that apply to both:
- Turn off the AC auto-off for a fridge. EcoFlow's manuals say the AC output can switch itself off when the load is idle, which a cycling fridge can trigger. For a fridge, set the AC output to always on (DELTA 2) or the AC timeout to "never" (DELTA 3).
- Medical devices. EcoFlow's DELTA 3 manual says the product isn't intended for life-sustaining medical equipment, including hospital-grade CPAP, and advises checking with your equipment's maker before using an external power source. The CPAP guide covers DC options, which can stretch runtime further.
Extra batteries: what works with what
Expandability is the deciding factor for many outage plans, and it's where the DELTA 3 helps DELTA 2 owners most.
| Extra battery (capacity) | Works with DELTA 2? | Works with DELTA 3 / DELTA 3 Plus? | Total with one extra battery |
|---|---|---|---|
| DELTA 2 Extra Battery (1,024 Wh) | Yes | Yes | 2,048 Wh |
| DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery (2,048 Wh) | Yes (DELTA 2 supports one extra battery) | Yes | 3,072 Wh |
| DELTA 3 Series Extra Battery (1,024 Wh) | Not listed by EcoFlow | Yes | 2,048 Wh |
| DELTA Pro 3 Extra Battery (4,096 Wh) | Not listed by EcoFlow | Yes | 5,120 Wh (EcoFlow says "up to 5kWh") |
What this means:
- DELTA 2 owners: if you just need more hours, the cheapest upgrade is an extra battery for the unit you already have. EcoFlow's US store no longer shows a page for the new DELTA 2 Extra Battery, but it still lists the DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery and names the DELTA 2 as compatible (one extra battery maximum). When we checked on October 17, 2026, its US refurbished page also listed a refurbished DELTA 2 Smart Extra Battery.
- If you later buy a DELTA 3, EcoFlow lists both DELTA 2 extra batteries as compatible, so that purchase isn't wasted.
- DELTA 3 buyers: EcoFlow says its DELTA 3 Extra Battery is about a third smaller than the DELTA 2 version and stacks on top of the station. Its marketing shows one extra battery per DELTA 3. The about 5 kWh ceiling matches one DELTA Pro 3 Extra Battery (1,024 + 4,096 Wh).
- DELTA 3 Plus cable note: EcoFlow's DELTA 3 Plus page says these extra batteries connect via an XT150 cable. Confirm which cable comes in the box before you buy.
- Not expandable: DELTA 3 Classic. EcoFlow also sells a 1,024 Wh DELTA 3 Classic. Its spec sheet lists no expandable battery, 1,400 W AC input, no 12 V DC output, and a 5-year warranty made up of 3 years standard plus 2 years extended when you register in the app. Don't confuse it with the DELTA 3 if you plan to add capacity.
Who should buy which
You already own a DELTA 2: keep it (in most cases)
A DELTA 3 gives you no extra runtime and no extra continuous power. Upgrade only if one of these applies:
- You want a 10 ms UPS for a desktop PC, NAS or other electronics that dislike a 30 ms gap (and, for NAS shutdown signalling, the DELTA 3 Plus specifically).
- You often recharge from the wall on short notice and want the faster full AC charge.
- You run motor loads alongside other appliances and keep hitting the 2,700 W surge limit.
- You need more than 3,072 Wh from one stack.
Otherwise, put the money toward a DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery or solar panels. You'll get far more outage coverage per dollar.
Pros
- Higher continuous output (1,800 W)
- Accepts one extra battery (up to 3,072 Wh)
- 6 AC outlets, 2 × 100 W USB-C
- 5-year warranty
Cons
- Heavier and bulkier (~27 lb)
- Lower surge peak than the Jackery (2,700 W)
You're looking at a leftover or refurbished DELTA 2
It can still be a good buy. It's the same 1,024 Wh / 1,800 W LFP station with a 3,000-cycle rating. Before you buy:
- Compare the price to a new DELTA 3, which is where EcoFlow's US store now sends DELTA 2 shoppers. The DELTA 2 only makes sense if it's clearly cheaper.
- Check the warranty. EcoFlow's 5-year warranty is listed for new units. Refurbished and third-party listings can carry different terms.
- Check expansion availability. If you'll want more capacity later, make sure a compatible DELTA 2 or DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery is available, or plan on the larger DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery.
EcoFlow DELTA 2
- 1,024 Wh LFP battery
- 1,800 W continuous / 2,700 W surge

Frequently asked questions
Is the DELTA 3 better than the DELTA 2?
For a new purchase, yes on paper. Both hold 1,024 Wh and run 1,800 W continuous, but EcoFlow rates the DELTA 3 for a 3,600 W surge (vs 2,700 W), 1,500 W AC charging to 100% in 56 minutes (vs 1,200 W and 80 minutes), a 10 ms UPS transfer (vs within 30 ms) and 4,000 cycles to 80% capacity (vs 3,000).
Does the DELTA 3 last longer on one charge than the DELTA 2?
No. Both are rated 1,024 Wh, so runtime on the same load is the same. A 56.1 W CPAP gets about 15.5 hours on AC from either one, and a fridge with a 465 kWh per year label gets about 16 hours, using our 0.85 conversion allowance.
Will my DELTA 2 extra battery work with a DELTA 3?
Yes, per EcoFlow. The DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 Plus product pages list the DELTA 2 Extra Battery and DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery as compatible, along with the DELTA 3 and DELTA Pro 3 Extra Batteries.
Can a DELTA 2 use the DELTA 3 Extra Battery?
EcoFlow doesn't list it. Its DELTA 3 Series Smart Extra Battery page names the DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 Plus, and its DELTA 2 Max Smart Extra Battery page says the DELTA 2 supports one extra battery. For a DELTA 2, stick with the DELTA 2 or DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery (up to 3,072 Wh total).
Should I upgrade my DELTA 2 to a DELTA 3?
Usually not. You'd pay for the same capacity and continuous output. Upgrade only if you need the 10 ms UPS for a desktop PC or NAS, faster AC recharging, the higher surge rating, or expansion beyond 3,072 Wh. If you just need more runtime, add an extra battery to the DELTA 2.
What is the difference between DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 Plus?
The battery, inverter and charging are the same. The Plus adds a second 500 W solar input (1,000 W total), 140 W USB-C ports instead of 100 W, faster USB-A ports, and NAS and HID support for its UPS through EcoFlow's PowerManager software.
Is the DELTA 2 still sold?
EcoFlow's US store now redirects the DELTA 2 product link to the DELTA 3, and its standalone DELTA 2 Extra Battery page no longer loads. EcoFlow still publishes a DELTA 2 information page, and remaining or refurbished units may turn up through other sellers. Check the warranty terms on any listing.
